The word “Diva” is now usually used to mean a negative characteristic of a women with great needs, but what has happened to using the word to identify great singing and performance capabilities?
Last Thursday, VH1 decided to continue the annual tradition of honoring women from different walks of life during VH1 Divas. The show honored the work of Jennifer Hudson, Jordan Sparks, Adele, India Aire, and Miley Cyrus. This group of five artists was an interesting and unexpected combination of 5 songstresses. India Aire has not been present in the media for some time, Miley Cyrus is still a Disney princess to me, and I didn’t even know who Adele was. Although my initial thoughts were such, my reservations about the Divas quickly changed after viewing their performances.
Adele and India Aire sang a great Duet, and Miley Cyrus to be honest was amazing! Very impressed by both Miley and Adele.
And now to the fashions of the evening. I was able to snap a few red carpet pics during the madness and I must say that my Red Carpet favs were by far Jordan Sparks and Toni Braxton. Both ladies looked absolutely amazing.

Now, the outfit the left me the most perplexed were those worn by Jennifer Hudson and India Aire. Jennifer seems to still be packing the baby. Of course she just recently gave birth, but I would have picked another dress for the Diva.
….tonight I chose NOT….not to go see The Dream that is…he is scheduled to give a much anticipated…or should I say, an “over-hyped” performance tonight at M2 Ultra Lounge in the Meat Packing District. I’m almost sure his fiancee Christina Milian will be in attendance though. I’m so glad she colored her hair btw. I personally wasn’t a fan of the all-blonde look.

Latoya Luckett is also having her album release party tonight at Eden. It’s a great night for party hoping!
Capital Records artist, Letoya Luckett, will be making rounds in NYC this week to promote her sophmore album “Lady Love”. She will be holding a listening party at Eden located at 264 West 47th street between 8th and Bway on Wednesday night as well as an afterwork event at Ultra located at 26th street between 6th and Broadway sponsored by Nuvo and JC Cognac.
Leyota looks looks really fresh-faced on her album cover. I am not sure how I feel about what appears to be a short haircut nor do I quite understand whether the strings are a part of her dress but I am ready to give the album a listen and see why Miss Luckett is calling herself… or the album “Lady Love”.

I am loving Maxwell’s new clean image. I have never before noticed Maxwell for anything else but his music, but his new album BLACKsummer’snight has brought out the sexy in that man! My goodness, I didn’t see it before, but I am loving the hair cut, the suits, and the overall clean and beautiful look.
The album, which was released yesterday has also captured my attention! It ixs a passionate and raw album. Although only 9 songs, they are all very “Maxwell”…just pure music that speaks to the heart. I lovez it!!!
Universal Music Group has a new artist ready to debute an album. A listening session was held this evening to preview Ace Hood’s new album “Ruthless” at Quad Studios.
Diddy’s artist Janelle Monae will be helping The Hudson Hotel celebrate the opening of Private Park Tuesday night 5/12. Private Park is The Hudson’s newest chill spot, and The Hudson has teamed up with Charity Water and Giant Step to bring on the festivities.
Janelle Monae and her unique style is becoming a familiar artist in the media circle as she prepares to debut her album Metropolis.
The event taking place tomorrow will be raising funds for the construction of a safe water well. 100% of the proceeds will go to the previously mention cause as a $20 suggested donation is associated with the RSVP only event.
Yes ladies an gents, it appears as if Baya Voce from Real World Brooklyn is pursuing her passion of music. The resident DJ of New York’s Angel’s and Kings is releasing an Album. Baya hosted an album release party this last Wednesday at Ella Lounge located on 9 avenue A. Tyku was very much present at the event as “Team Tyku” photographed party goers with the lime green beverage.
Chrisette Michele has definitely grown on me over the past year or so, and I was really excited to listen to her perform in person, but duty called, and I had to go out of town.
Although so, I was able to get the inside scoop from a few friends that attended the listening session. According to my sources, the event went well as Chrisette performed for 30mins at The Canal Room in NYC. She was introduced by L.A. Reid, and sang a few songs from her new album Ephiphany as Neyo, who was also in the building, listened on. Chrisette announced that Neyo Executive Produced the album, so it was only right for him to be present. The album is expected to be better than her last, and as a huge Neyo fan, I can’t expect anything less than GREAT music from the man.
BET‘s annual fashion show aired tonight as the creative work of African American designers graced the stage of the Hammerstein Ballroom stage. Joy Bryant and Derek Luke hosted the show…i don’t think I’ve ever seen Joy on BET before tonight but hey, she did a great job and she always looks fab (thanks to her stylist Rachel Zoe).
The show, which was taped last week, opened with TI and his clothing line, AKOO followed by Project Runway’s Korto demonstrating her line, Korto Momolu. The Dream performed with a little help from Fabolous as Korto’s flowy and chic pieces were displayed.
Douglas Says’s plus size models did there thing to the sounds of “I’m So Special”. The clothing was really bright and patterned. The highlight of his collection was the finale piece, a gold bathing suit which was worn very well by yes, a plus size model. Loved it!
Designer Bryan Lars presented his line to the sounds of Bobby Valentino. After which followed the athletic line, Protege, which presented fashionably casual and sporty pieces. A few professional athletes worked the runway and so did Toccara, who came out wearing basketball shorts, a tank top, and heels.
Swimwear, swimwear, swimwear!!! Models sporting Johnny Vincent Swimwear by Celeste Vincent, ripped the runway to the sounds of Ron Brownz. Busta Rhymes and his hype man scratch took over the stage with their club banger “Arab Money“, but Keri Hilson stole the show as she danced away while model’s displayed recession friendly outfits.
Overall it was a great show. The focus was placed on the clothing pieces and the models did a great job displaying the designer’s work.
